She’s Tinkering Again!

Yes, I’m tinkering with the blog again. I wanted links that stood out more clearly. I wanted a format that would work better with Google AdSense. I wanted something fresh and new.

So you may see things shifting around on your page. I’m not done. If something bothers you, speak up. If you like something, speak up. I’m listening, but not necessarily taking orders.

I have begun allowing ads on the blog in the hopes of defraying some of the cost of this blog. While it is possible to run it on a shoestring, after seven years of shoestringing I thought I’d give the ads a try. Again, listening for feedback here!

AND: Ask the rabbi something! Topics, topics, I need topics! What did you see at synagogue that seemed mysterious, weird, or wrong? What did someone tell you “All Jews Do” and you just wondered? What tchotchke [trinket] do you have around the house that belonged to your grandmother and it has Hebrew letters on it and you don’t know what it is?

  1. I *love* the new look! Keep tinkering!

I hope you have a wonderful 2017, filled with love, laughter, family, friends, safe travels, exciting ideas, and so much more. Your blog posts are always informative, thought-provoking, and very welcome in my inbox!

I literally *just* registered two domain names about fifteen minutes ago. It’s starting out to be a productive, FUN year, which I didn’t expect considering the political climate. You inspire me, because almost nothing gets you down or keeps you from accomplishing important things.

  2. Understand need to monetize the blog, but really, really not loving the ads. Google ads have become so creepy, clearly reflecting other online activity.

Any possibility of a paid, ad-free, subscription, as an option?

    1. I appreciate the feedback, Anne. Unfortunately this is the only option for monetizing the blog unless I move it over to a wordpress.org setup, which would cost a bundle. I am paying attention, though, and I may move back to a theme (layout) where they are less intrusive. I do agree this tracking stuff gets creepy!

  3. I love your image of the VW with the hood up. The imagery immediately took me to the place in my head where ‘things go a little smoother yet I’m comforted that I’ll receive the same steady, reliable information I’ve come to expect from a teacher such as yourself.
As for the ads, they are not overly intrusive and it’s my decision to check them out or not. Matter of fact, in the case of today’s ads, I’m not sure how they work, but I do shop both stores and will give them both a click. Who knows, that may drive some revenue to your blog.
Wishing you the best in this new year.

    1. Thanks, Sheri! I loved that image, too.

I visualize this blog as rather like a VW beetle. Sometimes I have gotten messages from knowledgeable Jews who worry that I’m not dealing with all the fine points, or that I use too much English and thereby sacrifice precision. I explain that I’m offering BASIC Judaism here. There are many sites that cater to the more-sophisticated student. Some people drive a VW, and some drive a Ferrari – the two vehicles were designed with different concerns in mind.

      Click away! I’m grateful.

      1. I’d say you are right on target. Basic information must be disciminated to the world before we can understand, appreciate and love all mankind. If we don’t understand the meaning behind different religions how are we to know why or what has a sacred place in your religion when in fact it may not mean the same in mine. If what I learn from you was sophisticated and I had to consult numerous references to understand what you were teaching me, trust me, I would be looking for something far more simple.

        1. I miss the convenience of being able to click on ‘previous’ or ‘next’ blog; I don’t always read you entries right away… The ads are a little disconcerting, when they seem contrary to the content of the blog–it happens occasionally, but I understand the neccessity… I like your background color–it’s soothing!

          1. Yes, I have noticed the differences in navigation and I am not sure I will stick with this theme. Noted, your opinion about the background color!

          2. Thank you, Denise. I too miss the ‘previoius’ and ‘next’ blog. It’s a feature I used a lot. If I had to read every entry right away, I would be in a lot of trouble. If I didn’t have to spend so much time with the reader, it would help things move much faster. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
