Rabbi John Rosove published this post on his blog today and I feel sure it will interest many of you. Read through his post and ask yourself where you fit in  this particular scheme.

Do these findings surprise you, and if so how?

Does reading this article change your idea of a “good Jew” in any way? How?

I look forward to your comments!

  1. I don’t really fit any of the categories, perhaps because I live in
Israel? I did intermarry, but my husband converted halakhically. In the U.S. I suppose you could have called us ‘engaged,’ but that wouldn’t have been right either. I suppose the part I most agree with is that all streams of Judaism in the U.S. could and should make a greater effort to be inclusive. For instance, we would have been members of a congregation had there been one that made us truly welcome. Btw we lived in Massachusetts but outside the Boston area.

    1. Yes, this was a study of American Jews, and while we are all family, each branch of the mishpachah has its own quirks.

Inclusiveness is critical to a Jewish future, in my opinion. Looking back in history, when we have indulged in sinat chinam, baseless hatred, it’s always hurt us. It is a shame that we cannot, as a people, seem to learn not to exclude one another.
